Please join me in supporting CASA!
I am raising funds for CASA by collecting donations for CASA’s Walk for the Child fundraiser on April 14th, 2012 at the Atascadero Lake. Funds raised will be used to provide caring advocates for abused and neglected children in San Luis Obispo County.
CASA of San Luis Obispo County advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the court system. CASA recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who advocate for this vulnerable population with the goal of ensuring that each and every child grows up in a safe, nurturing, and permanent home.
I completed the CASA training in October 2005 and advocated for 3 teenage girls as they prepared to age out of the child welfare system. I was hired as CASA’s part-time Grants Manager in April 2006. As such, I truly understand the depth of the commitment that our volunteers and staff make on behalf of some of the most vulnerable children in the county. At any time, there are approximately 500 children under the jurisdiction of the county’s Juvenile Dependency Court. These children have been removed from the home due to abuse or neglect and need a voice in court. No other agency or individual can do what CASAs do for children in foster care. The money raised at CASA’s “Walk for the Child” will help to provide caring advocates for abused and neglected children.
